The camp will include 60yd dash, infield and outfield defense, Batting practice, bullpens, simulated game.
What to bring:
Tennis shoes/ Turf shoes , spikes for pitchers only, glove, hat, pants, bat, helmet, face covering, personal water bottle, catchers gear, snack, and sun screen.
Campers will receive a T-Shirt, lunch is not provided.
No walk-ups day of camp.

Complete your holiday décor by learning the basics of building a wreath from scratch at our wreath making workshop!
We will provide a 14" wire frame, various green/natural handpicked material from the Arboretum, wire cutters, and ribbon. The wreath will extend up to 24" when complete. If you would like to add extra embellishments (such as ornaments, a Santa or elf) feel free to bring them. Helpers will be on hand to assist in this fun filled day.

Ephemeral means lasting for a very short time, usually in reference to beauty. Ephemeral in this context is used to describe the short period of time in which woodland spring wildflowers bloom. Come join the naturalist and identify all the spring wildflowers we can find. We will be looking for trillium, bloodroot, twin leaf, false rue anemone, wild ginger and many others.

Arbor Day Event
Come help us plant a tree for Arbor day. After the planting, you'll go on an evening hike with the naturalist. The tree planting will take place at the start of the event and take between 15-30 minutes. The guided hike will start at 6:30 pm and go for an hour. There will also be native trees that will be free to take, while supplies last. Meet in the first parking lot.
Program is limited to 100 participants. Program participation is free but non-members are subject to the $10 carload admission fee.

This kid-focused program is for any child who wants to grow their first garden. They will learn how to plant seeds and how take care of each type of plant. Seeds, soil, and pots will be provided. Children will get to choose from a variety of 30 types of seeds, such as herbs, squash, tomatoes, peppers, root vegetables, and more.
Program is limited to 15 participants. Program participation is free but non-members are subject to the $10 per carload admission fee. Meet at the Adventure Garden.

Professor Spencer Cortwright works at Indiana University Northwest and teaches a variety of biology courses. During this hike, you will learn about the tree assemblage of the woodland at Gabis Arboretum. Professor Cortwright will explain the history of the woodland by identifying tree species and estimating their ages. The pre-settlement landscape will also be discussed.
Program is limited to 20 participants. Program participation is free but non-members are subject to the $10 per carload admission fee. Meet in the first parking lot. In May, trail conditions can be muddy so dress appropriately.
Special Note: Gabis Arboretum will be hosting a series of tree hikes throughout the year. We plan on having one in spring, summer, and winter, all focusing on different aspects of our trees. Read the individual descriptions to learn what each hike will focus on.

Watch the Fireflies in the Beautiful Night Sky
Experience the magic of summer nights at the Arb with hundreds of fireflies flashing through the sky! Bring your family and friends along to marvel at the wonder of these glowing winged beetles (also known as lightning bugs).
Gabis Arboretum will remain open until 10:00pm
This is an unguided event.
Visitors can walk the prairie to watch the fireflies or stargaze. Gabis Arboretum has very little light pollution at night so it's a great place to enjoy nighttime wildlife. Bring a flashlight if needed. We will have all the lights turned off to reduce light pollution. There will be a staff member present on the property who will close the gate at 10:00 p.m. so please leave by 10:00 p.m.

Join Lenny Farlee on a summer tree identification hike. Lenny has a masters degree in forest management from Purdue University and is the extension forester for the Hardwood Tree Improvement and Regeneration Center at Purdue University. Lenny will point out key identifying features for a variety of tree species. We will mostly be looking at the leaves, fruit, nuts, flowers of these trees. Expect to leave with a better understanding of key identifying characteristics of native trees species.
Please bring water as we will be outside for an extended period of time.
